Leviticus 17:11 says, "For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul." Isaiah 53:6 states, "... and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all." And in Isaiah 53:10, "Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin." Jesus, in John 3:14-15 says, "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life." The bronze represented judgement and royalty, and the serpent symbolized sin. Jesus was made sin and foresaken by God, for a "moment." But as in Psalm 22:21, we see "for thou hast heard me," and in Mark 16:6, "he is risen." God has resurrected Jesus - death could not hold him. Corinthians 5:21 says, "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

At Gethsemane on the night of his betrayal, Jesus prayed three times to God the Father, "... O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt." Some point to Psalm 22:2 as a prophecy of the supernatural darkness that covered the land during the crucifixion. Jesus was on the cross for three hours of daylight, and three hours of darkness. Luke 23:44 "And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.
